Privacy policy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

Short version: this site counts visits with Google Analytics, keeps standard server logs, and emails me whatever you send through the contact form. Nothing is sold.

Google Analytics

I use Google Analytics to count visits and see how people play the games (for example, which cards get matched and where people give up). It sets cookies and collects data such as your device, browser, approximate location, and the pages you view. Google processes this data under its own terms: see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can block it everywhere with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Cookies and your choice

Visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland are asked before analytics cookies are set; until you choose, analytics cookies stay off. Anyone, anywhere, can change their choice at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page. One small cookie (cc_cookie) remembers your choice for six months.

The cookie settings panel also has a joke toggle, "Listen in on your phone calls." To be clear: we don't listen in on your phone calls, and nothing on this site can. Turning the toggle on just embeds a YouTube video; nothing loads until you turn it on, nothing is saved, and it has no effect on your real cookie choices. YouTube's own privacy policy applies to that video once it loads.

WcA drawing grader (Venice.ai)

In the WcA game's drawing question, your drawing is sent to Venice.ai to be graded by an AI model, then discarded; this site does not store it. See Venice.ai's privacy policy. The server keeps a log of each grading request (time, category, score, and which model answered) with no image attached, deleted after 30 days.

Google reCAPTCHA (contact form)

The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA to block spam. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends it to Google for analysis. It is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Contact form

The form collects what you type (request type, page, details, supporting source, and your name and email if you give them) plus your IP address. Your message is emailed to me, the site owner, through Amazon's email service, and to no one else. It is not sold or shared. The email stays in my inbox for as long as I need it to handle your request. The server does not store your message: it keeps a short log of each submission (time, request type, page, and whether it went through), deleted after 90 days, and a scrambled (hashed) copy of your IP address for one hour to stop spam floods.

Server logs

Like most websites, the web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser, pages requested, time) for security and troubleshooting. They rotate weekly and are deleted after about five weeks.

Buy Me a Coffee

Tip links go to Buy Me a Coffee, a third-party site with its own privacy policy. Nothing about you is sent to it from this site except that you clicked the link.

If you tip and write “pardon” anywhere in your message, your first name and last initial (never your full name, email, message, or amount) are listed on the Presidential Pardons page. Marking your tip private or anonymous in Buy Me a Coffee keeps you off that list even if you wrote “pardon.” To be removed at any time, use the corrections form and choose “Removal from the Pardons wall.”
